Pre-Ballet and Tap
Dara Jianna Broadnax is a graduate of Philadelphia’s Girard Academic Music Program where she was a member of the Concert Choir and played the violin. She has been a student at The Philadelphia School of Dance Arts for 11 years where she received the Directors Award and the Outstanding Student Award from founder and director Dr. Joan Myers Brown. While at the Philadelphia School of Dance Arts, she was an assistant ballet and jazz teacher for 5 years. She has performed and studied with Philadanco Youth Company, known as D3, where she has trained under many world-renowned choreographers and members of Philadanco company members. Dara is a junior at the University of Pittsburgh where she is majoring in Communications with minors in Africana Studies, Political Science and Dance. She plans to pursue a career in the Public Relations. As a Pitt student, she participates in the Pitt Dance Ensemble, Some of God’s Children Gospel Choir and the Anointed Steps of Faith step team. Dara is in her third year as a teaching artist with HDAT and she teaches Ballet and modern dance to Creative Movement and Pre-Professional Academy students.
